Before Finale 2012, changing instruments mid-score was a bit of a process. For example, if I wanted a saxophonist to switch to a flute halfway through a piece, I had to add a Staff Style for the notation to appear correctly, and an Expression to make playback work right.
Want to fatten up a bass guitar sound in Finale? My trick is to add a second bass staff with a different bass sound, copy the notes of the bass part to this second staff, and pan the two bass staves hard left and right.
Expanding upon the improved percussion notation features introduced in Finale 2010, Finale 2011 now allows for quick percussion doubling or instrument changing on the same staff.
As I mentioned a few weeks ago, the most frequently asked percussion question I hear from users of Finale 2010 concerns the playback speed of snare rolls.
