Transposing and working with measures

Changing the key and deleting extra measures.

With many kinds of music, you may find that you need to change from the key signature, time signature or clef that you selected in the Setup Wizard.

In this lesson, you will learn how to:

  1. Change the key signature
  2. Delete extra measures

Note. To begin at this point, open "Tutorial 4.MUS."

Changing the key

You can use the Key Signature tool to change the key signature of your document. In NotePad, key signatures can only be changed in the first measure.

To add a key signature change:

  1. Select the Key Signature tool .
  2. Use the slider to change the key to c minor.
  3. For Transpose Notes, choose Down.
  4. Click OK.

Deleting extra measures

The Selection tool is also the easiest way to add or remove measures from your document. Let’s try this to delete the remaining blank measures in this example.

To delete extra measures:

  1. Double-click on measure 17 to highlight the measure stack. (A stack is a full measure or several full measures in all staves).
  2. Hold down SHIFT and press the END key to highlight to the end of the piece.
  3. Press the DELETE key.

Tip. Hold down the SHIFT key and press the RIGHT ARROW to expand the selection. If the measure has music in it, SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW highlights the next beat and CTRL +SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW highlights the entire measure).
