Guitar Chords

Chords in NotePad do not follow a particular note, so you’ll want to add the chords after you’ve finished entering all notes that might affect the spacing and layout of the page. PrintMusic and Finale have a dedicated Chord tool that is much more sophisticated and transpose with changes in the key signature.

To enter chords with the Text tool:

  1. Click the Text tool image\Text_Tool.gif. The Text menu appears.
  2. Choose Text > Attach to Measures.
  3. Double-click where you want the marking.
  4. Select font, size and style from the Text menu. Skip this step if the default Text Block settings are the ones you want to use.
  5. Type the guitar chord. For musical characters, such as #, b or n, select the character, then choose Text > Font. Set the font to Maestro 24, and click OK. In the Maestro font, shift-3, b or n represent the sharp, flat and natural characters. See Maestro Font Character Set for more details.
  6. Click outside the text block when you’re finished typing a chord.
  7. Double-click to create a new text block for the next guitar chord. See Text blocks for more information.
