To modify brackets on a system-by-system basis

You can avoid showing a bracket on a group containing a single staff, such as a solo line. If you don’t want a bracket to appear, make sure that Show Bracket If Group Only Contains One Staff is not selected in the Group Attributes dialog box.

However, there may be situations where you need the bracket configuration to change from one staff system to another. To do this, you simply need to delete the bracket on the system that requires alterations, and then define a new one accordingly, assigning it to the measures of that system. (When you do this, Finale automatically creates two new bracket definitions for the systems included in the former bracket's definition--one for systems before the deleted bracket, and one after).

  1. Choose Page View from the View menu.
  2. Choose the Staff tool image\Staff_Tool.gif.
  3. Select a handle on the staff you want to adjust. Then, from the Staff menu, choose Groups and Brackets > Remove to remove it.
  4. From the Staff menu, choose Groups and Brackets > Add. The Group Attributes dialog box appears.
  5. Define the bracket as needed, then click OK. Use the handles to make any independent manual adjustments to this bracket.
